We are the Lowcountry’s only non-governmental, not for profit healthcare system. With this distinction, we believe it is our responsibility to advocate for and respond to our neighbors needs through community benefit. Additionally, because we are a not-for-profit organization and tax exempt under the IRS code, we have legal obligations related to community benefits and our “social accountability”. To consistently report our community benefit activities to the public, we have adopted the Voluntary Hospital Association (VHA)/Catholic Health Association’s (CHA) standardized valuation methodology. We believe that measuring values and outcomes evaluates the effectiveness of programs and community-level activities and assists us with demonstrating accountability of funds and staff resources.
We hope that by providing our methodology for valuing community benefit, this will give insight on how we serve our community, while at the same time discovering new ways to be of service.
