For Activity Planners

The purpose of continuing medical education (CME) is to enhance the physician's ability to care for patients. It is the responsibility of Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) to assure that the CME activity is designed primarily for that purpose.

In order for your activity to be considered for accreditation, an application must be submitted to the CME department at least 8 weeks prior to the meeting. In accordance to the CME procedures, the completed CME activity application must include all supporting material when submitted. Applicants will be expected to have read Roper St. Francis Healthcare CME guidelines prior to the preparation of the CME application.

As per Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) guidelines, the RSFH CME department must be involved at the initial planning stages of any program.

1. Program Approval:
To receive accreditation for your meeting, you must submit documentation for the educational components before the course is presented. Required documentation includes the following:

  • Completed Activity Planning document
  • Completed disclosures from ALL speakers and planners
  • Completed content validation / off label documentation (included on disclosure form)
  • Program schedule and content outline
  • Speaker/faculty list
  • Drafts of promotional material

2. Commercial Support Documentation (if applicable):
If there is potential for commercial support, please contact the CME office as soon as possible to discuss. Per the Standards for Commercial Support from the ACCME, all decisions regarding commercial support must be managed by the CME department. A  letter of agreement, signed by the commercial supporter, the CME provider, and the education partner is required.

If you have already procured commercial support, the CME department is unable to accredit the activity.

3. Promotional Materials:
Promotional materials may not make reference to the Roper St. Francis Healthcare CME or its accreditation system prior to the actual notification that credit has been awarded. A program must be reviewed and approved for accreditation before any advertising of CME can take place. Statements such as "approval has been applied for" and "credits pending" may not be used.

Once all components of the program have been found to meet accreditation criteria, the program will be granted continuing education credit.
