A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens. Cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss in adults 55 and older and are the surgical procedure most often performed by
the ophthalmologists of the Roper St. Francis Eye Surgery Centers. Cataract surgery has advanced tremendously in the past 20 years. Modern techniques now include no-stitch, no shot, no patch cataract surgery, providing excellent outcomes and rapid visual recovery.
Cataract Treatment
At the Roper St. Francis Eye Surgery Centers we offer the latest cataract treatments available including, Multifocal or Presbyopia Correcting Intraocular Lenses. The Centers are on the cutting edge of new therapies and are using the AcrySOF ReSTOR IOL, an intraocular implant that is specifically designed to restore both distance and near vision. ReSTOR is an option for cataract surgery lens replacement, as well as for individuals who have lost their ability to see things up close. In the FDA clinical trials of the ReSTOR IOL, 80% of the patients never needed glasses with ReSTOR lenses placed in both eyes.
