Echocardiogram
What's Next:
- Call
Outpatient Registration to schedule your
echocardiogram, 402-5000. A physician
order is necessary.
- Wear
comfortable clothing that is easy to lie
down in.
- There
is no preparation for the test. You may
eat before.
- It
is important that you are on time for
your scheduled appointment.
- Unless
you are instructed to report directly
to the department, you will need to check
in with the Outpatient Admitting office
on the first floor of Roper Hospital.
A volunteer will be available to escort
you to the Echo Laboratory for your procedure.
Specialty Echocardiograms
Stress Echo This is an echocardiogram
that is performed in conjunction with
a stress test.
Transesophageal Echocardiogram
This is an invasive procedure where the
probe, or transducer, is placed down the
patients esophagus in order to view
more difficult to obtain images of the
heart. Because patients are given a mild
sedative for this test, they may not drive
the remainder of the day after it is completed.
